Roxy: "good 4 u" (playthrough cover)
ESP ALL ACCESS COMMUNITY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT! Let's talk about pop music for a moment. Ask nine out of ten musicians in any genre from metal to classical to jazz, and they'll all claim to hate pop. Why? Well, it's because it doesn't seem to be very challenging from a musical standpoint. Take a few chords, play them repetitively, and keep the focus on the vocalist, and you can have a perfectly good pop song. As the old saying goes, you can play three chords for a million people, or choose to play a million chords for three people. In the case of Olivia Rodrigo's "good 4 u", you have a YouTube video that currently has over 189,000,000 views. But the reality is that most people really do prefer music that is fun and danceable (which is why "pop" is short for "popular"), and if you want to be a successful working musician, there's nothing at all wrong with playing on a huge pop hit... and if you write one, it may finance your next mansion. Here's ESP All Access community member Roxy doing a cool guitar playthrough of that Olivia Rodrigo song using her ESP Original Series Eclipse with a quilted maple top in See Thru Black Cherry. Roxy plays bass in NYC-based band Jackknife Stiletto, and you can check out more of her music on her Facebook page.
If you're doing cool music with your ESP, ESP E-II, or LTD guitar or bass, upload a video to the ESP site and we might select you as the next ESP All Access Community Member to feature on our front page where thousands of other players can check you out! Get the details here.
