Would be interested in this because I have another multiscale and love the tension and comfort of fanned frets.  I just wish it came in better colors.  I think this would look great in silver burst, black, red, ect.  (Just a hint, nudge nudge, wink wink..)

Hi there
I just bought one and I must say, I'm very pleased!
Is it possible to Name the exact D'Addario string sets that fit this bass? When looking for reserve strings, I got really confused.
It seems that it is not as easy to find correct strings for multiscale basses as for regular 4 or 5 string basses...

Would the NYXL45130SL or  EPS170-5SL or EXL170-5SL set fit? I was not able to find a set on the d'Addario website that exactly matched the specs you gave above...

Thanks for any answer!

Eddie M.

I don't think they sell this exact string set to end consumers...I wondered the same thing when I first got mine. I ended up going with Payson stainless steel strings that are actually designed for 34-37" scale length. They are perfectly balanced string to string and otherwise just fantastic. So much better than the stock strings IMO. SIT strings and of course Dingwall make proper string packs too. I don't think you'll look back.

I've been playing bass in a church band for the last 15 years or so. I'm a guitar player, by default, but they needed a bassist. I played a 4 string Carvin J style Bass, then added a 5 string Sire Marcus Miller, both excellent instruments. Then I saw Leland Sklar talking about his Dingwall multiscale 5 string, and the difference between the resonance between that and the standard scale bass was pronounced. That Dingwall was north of $5K, too much for my blood, so I searched for alternatives on line. This LTD grabbed my attention, and after musing about it for 8 hours, I ordered it. I was not disappointed, at all! Right out of the box, it felt right. The pickups sound great, the neck is sleek and very playable with the fanned frets. The wood is beautiful, a reasonable weight for a guitar this size. The one small adjustment in playing is on the first fret of the lowest strings, where I find part of my hand behind the nut, and it feels strange. Other than that, if you're looking for this style of bass, this is an excellent choice!

有没有人知道这些旋钮以及这两个挡位变换器都是干嘛用的,没有研究明白

It would be nice if we could hear what this bass actually sounds like.  The only video you have is a heavily produced & distorted tone.  I'd be happy to do a review of the natural unadulterated sound of this bass if you want to send me one to try out!

Thanks for the suggestion!

Just curious what the weight is for this updated model. I have the discontinued rosewood version and was curious if this weighed less or more. Thanks!

Carl N.

This would be around 9.5lbs though individual instruments will vary

John N.

How could it possibly weigh more?  I call my original version the BEAST because of it's size and weight.  Still I love it.

Greg B.

Seems a bit expensive for an import.

John N.

Imagine if they made it in Japan.  It would be an even more expensive import.

Jesse L.

Hey so classic question for me, do I need special pickups if I want to swap them out? I have two of these and I may even consider a third. This and the OLD F405 are the best basses that exist for metal! Thanks

Carl N.

No, any pickup would be fine

Valentin B.

Hi. I am a proud owner or this awesome bass since two weeks, i know you use d'addario XL strings. But can you give me the exact references? . Because strings long enough for this beast are not easy to find. Thanks.

Carl N.

Yes, string gauges are located in the specifications for this model.

D'Addario XL (.045/.065/.085/.105/.125)

Kris J.

as a JDM ESP fan , it would be great if ESP LTD made more colors and models with fan frets like Fortress or Stream .

Carl N.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Mathieu C.

Wondering if you guys make a 6 string with fan feet?

Mathieu C.

Also, I have little knowledge of nordstrand pickups, haven't shopped for a bass in a  couple years lol, I'm sure they're great, but I'm used to EMG on two on my other Ltd bases, how do they compare

Carl N.

You could check out the demo we have for this https://www.espguitars.com/videos/2036783

Carl N.

We currently produce a four and five string as multiscaled instruments, no six strings at the moment.

Thomas B.

Hallo does this have a carbon or graphite reinforced neck?

Carl N.

Hey Thomas, this will have neither but a 5 piece Wenge/Purple Heart neck and dual action truss rod keeps this very stable.

Michael T.

Trying to make a decision! What's the string spacing stock from the factory on this one?

Carl N.

Hey Michael, this will have a 17mm spacing, hope this information allows you to make a decision.
