Two ESP 401s - Totally different tone

    Hi - I have two ESP 401s

    1. Vintage black Korean made - EMG 81/60

    2. Military Green Indonesian made - EMG 81/60

     

    The Korean guitar sounds the business - play it live & fantastic tone. Green Indonesian one totally different - grainy tone & much less 'smooth' than the Korean guitar. Tone not great at all live.

    Have seen a guitar tech who very quickly checked pickup output & that was ok. 

    What could be causing this & how could I improve tone for the Indonesian model? I doubt very much an EMG would be bad - can the pots be dud?

    Hey Craig, we suggest that you take this to a technician for further inspection. The same electronics are used regardless of the country of origin. If this is within one year of purchase and you are within the US, you can reach out to our customer service at customerservice@espguitars.com to begin a warranty claim.
