The ESP Guitar Company

I just received a Spider Valve mkII for Xmas and want to get some recording software but have no idea where to start. I am not a very good player and don't need anything fancy. Line 6 Guitar Port came with the gift but I don't want to open it cause I am not sure if it is what I need. Direct recording is prefered to miking because of a small often-sleeping baby at home and I can't play very loud. All help is appreciated!!
