ESP Guitars Adds Horizon Custom ‘87 to Popular LTD ’87 Series

ANAHEIM, CA (JANUARY 25, 2024) – ESP Guitars (NAMM Booth 208A/B) debuted a new addition to their popular LTD ’87 Series at the 2024 NAMM Show. The LTD Horizon Custom ’87 is being offered in three finishes: Black, Candy Apple Red (both with black hardware), and Pearl White (with chrome hardware).

“If a musician in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s wanted the very best available shred guitar, it was likely an ESP Horizon,” said Matt Masciandaro, president and CEO of The ESP Guitar Company. “Those original Horizon guitars are still highly coveted today. Like the rest of the ’87 Series, we carefully chose the components, hardware, and finishes for the Horizon Custom ’87 as a faithful recreation of the original ESP model from that era."

The Horizon Custom ’87 takes the archtop body of the ESP Horizon, and offers it with minimal adornment for unencumbered playability. It offers neck-thru-body construction at 25.5” scale, pairing an alder body and an extra-thin three-piece maple neck. The Horizon Custom ’87 features a Macassar ebony fingerboard with 24 extra-jumbo frets and no inlays (using side position dots, like the 1980s Horizon version). Its components include a Floyd Rose 1000 double-locking tremolo, a Seymour Duncan TB-5 Custom Trembucker pickup in the bridge, and a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickup in the neck position. Coil spitting for single-coil tones on either or both pickups is available via push-pull controls on the volume and tone knobs.

While ESP first got started in 1975 as a small repair shop in Tokyo, it was really toward the mid ‘80s when their guitars and basses grabbed the attention of players around the world. The LTD ’87 Series are faithful recreations of the set of instruments from this time frame. As the latest addition to the LTD ’87 Series, the Horizon Custom ’87 joins models including the M-I Custom ’87, Mirage Deluxe ’87, Eclipse ’87, and Eclipse NT ’87.

Detailed information and specs on the Horizon Custom ’87 is available on the ESP web site at www.espguitars.com.
