ENGL Amp Spotlight: Ironball E600 Combo

ENGL Amp Spotlight: Ironball E600 Combo

Remember the days where if you wanted to seem cool, you'd show up for a small club gig with your 100-watt half stack (or even a second 4x10 cabinet for a full stack)? And then what happened? Your band hated you for being far too loud, the audience hated you for the same reason, and the club started yelling at you to turn down before you'd even finished setup.

The fact is that a well-made smaller amp is not only capable of the stage volume you need for most gigging and recording situations; it's also going to give you better, more focused tone in most environments as well. For everyone who's not playing stadium gigs, the ENGL Ironball E600 combo amp is a fantastic choice. This compact lunchbox-format amp packs 20 watts into an amp, and you won't need to hire roadies or do weight training to get it to and from the car to the stage.

The funny thing is that even a 20-watt amp can be way too loud when you're trying to practice or record some tunes late at night in your apartment, so the Ironball E600 offers ENGL's Powersoak feature, allowing the output power to be reduced to just 1 Watt, or the speaker can be completely deactivated and you can use the frequency-corrected line output so you get all of the tone, and none of the eviction notices.

This amp also features ENGL's Master Volume Boost (M.V.B.), which provides a footswitchable boost of the master volume, meaning you have a second master volume at your disposal. To dial in tones, a Presence control supplements its Treble, Middle, and Bass EQ controls, and built-in reverb makes this a super versatile amp no matter whether you’re headed to the stage or the studio. Plus, you get the additional benefit of its classic all-tube tones that will never be replicated by any plug-in or modeling amp, with 4 x Engl ECC83 / 12AX7 preamp tubes, 4 x Engl ECC83 / 12AX7 output tubes, and the punchy power of a single 12″ Celestion Vintage 30 to drive your sound to your audience.
